The choice of colour line I use is just as important as the technique itself. I have moved all my colouring services over to KEVIN.MURPHY+CODE. It replaces my previous colour line (COLOR.ME by Kevin Murphy) in my studio because it takes everything I value and pushes it further, in performance, in results, and in how it treats the hair.
Based on Skincare Technology
At the centre of CODE is KM.LAMELLAR, a delivery system inspired by advanced skincare rather than traditional colour chemistry. It controls exactly how the pigments and care actives release into the hair strand, which means a more even colour regardless of porosity. Plus, it also contains anti-metal agents that working alongside to produce truly great results.
The colour is also enriched with organic argan oil, which nourishes the hair as it processes rather than leaving it to recover afterwards.
The results speak for themselves. In testing, CODE delivers a much more even colour, an increase in shine, and the hair feels even softer than before, all within a permanent colour service. How amazing is that.
A Better Experience in the Chair
CODE is an ammonia-based colour, which I chose deliberately because it unlocks a level of performance, grey coverage and longevity that ammonia-free formulas simply cannot match. Ammonia has had an unfair bad reputation for years, but the ingredient that usually replaces it, MEA, has its own drawbacks. Research has shown that at the concentrations needed to do the job properly, ammonia-free hair colours (most contain MEA) can cause more damage to the hair fibre than ammonia does, and unlike ammonia, it does not fully evaporate after rinsing. The only downside to an ammonia-based colour is the initial smell which evaporates quickly, however, CODE includes a Floral Accord Complex, a fragrance technology designed to counteract it during application.
It’s Sustainable (of course)
Choosing a colour line is also about what it costs the planet, and CODE holds up here even more than my previous colour line did:
- 100% vegan ingredients, with a biodegradable formula and a naturally derived ingredients wherever possible.
- Packaging built around waste reduction: a 100% recycled aluminium tube, a 100% recycled plastic cap, and an 80% recycled cardboard box.
- No internal leaflets, which cuts unnecessary paper use.
