I’m German. Offering sparkling water isn’t optional, it’s basically a legal requirement where I’m from. But how I offer it matters just as much as the fact that I do.
No Plastic Bottles, Ever
You won’t find a single plastic water bottle in this studio. Instead, I use a sparkling water maker supplied by CO2 YOU, a UK company running a proper circular system, not a bottled water delivery in disguise.
Here’s how it actually works. Instead of buying gas cylinders, using them once, and binning them, I rent mine. When my CO2 cartridges run low, CO2 YOU delivers fresh ones and collects the empties at the same time, by bike. No van idling outside, no plastic changing hands, no waste sitting in a cupboard waiting for a recycling run that never quite happens.
Why This Matters More Than It Sounds
It’s a small detail, the kind of thing that’s easy to skip past in favour of a bigger, flashier sustainability story. But small details are exactly what this studio is built on. The same thinking that put Scrummi towels in this studio instead of cotton, and PLA instead of single-use plastic, is behind the water you’re handed in the chair.
Every plastic bottle avoided is one less thing manufactured, shipped, and thrown away for a single use. Multiply that across a year of appointments and it adds up to a genuinely meaningful amount of plastic that simply never existed in the first place.
Just One More Thing You Don’t Have to Think About
You don’t need to know any of this to enjoy a glass of sparkling water while you’re in the chair. That’s rather the point. The sustainable choice should never be the inconvenient one, it should just be the one that’s already there, working quietly in the background, the same as everything else in this studio.
So yes, I’m German, and yes, there’s always sparkling water. Just don’t expect a plastic bottle anywhere near it.
