Compared with highlights, balayage doesn’t usually go right up to the roots. Foils are often still used, but the result is a sun-kissed effect with a softer regrowth line.
There is no one-size-fits-all formula. Some people want subtle dimension, others want a brighter, more noticeable result. The placement, tone and amount of lightness are all tailored to your hair, your skin tone and how much maintenance you’re realistically prepared to do.
