A tint or gloss is one of the simplest ways to change or refresh your hair colour. While they’re often grouped together, they do slightly different jobs.
A tint is a permanent colour. It’s typically used for grey coverage, darkening the hair or creating a long-lasting colour result. Because permanent colour can lift and deposit pigment, it’s often the best option when covering greys or making a more significant colour change.
A gloss is a demi-permanent colour. It deposits colour without lifting the natural hair, making it ideal for refreshing faded lengths, adjusting tone, adding richness or boosting shine. It can also be used to softly blend greys without fully covering them, creating a more natural result with less obvious regrowth. It’s a great option if you want to enhance your colour without the commitment of permanent colour.
Whether you’re covering greys, refreshing faded ends, deepening your natural shade or simply adding shine, the right service depends on what you’re trying to achieve.
Before reaching for the colour bowl, we’ll discuss your goals, your hair history and how much maintenance you’re realistically prepared to commit to. If there’s a better option than a tint or gloss, I’ll tell you.
I offer both ‘Full Works’ and ‘root-only ‘Maintenance’ applications. Maintenance applications are suitable for refreshing colour growth between appointments, but after around 8 weeks a Full Works appointment is usually needed to keep the colour even, rich and glossy from roots to ends. If you’re unsure which one you need, please get in touch before booking so we can make sure the correct service is selected.
