SHOULD you GET your HAIR DONE BEFORE OR AFTER?
We all wan’t to look our best even on our holidays, but you might want to hold off doing your hair just before.
If your hair is exposed to the sun for long periods of time, it will fade quite rapidly. This can be an advantage though, if you don’t mind being lighter. It’s also important to keep in mind that freshly lightened hair is more prone to develop a green hue when exposed to chlorinated pool water. This really is a thing!!!
Nonetheless, if you really need to have your hair done before your holiday, there are a few things you can do to protect it from all of the above.
Cover your hair
Seems like an obvious thing to do, but covering your hair with a hat is a simple way of protecting your hair from the sun. In addition, applying a conditioning and protective mask whilst you relax on the beach or the pool adds an extra layer of protection.
Rinse your hair
Sun, salt and chlorine can not only dry out your hair but can cause some serious damage too. The best way to prevent it is to immediately rinse hair after getting out of the pool or sea. It’s also worth noting that dry hair absorbs chlorine and salt, but wet hair doesn’t – so rising hair with fresh water before you enter the pool or sea will stop this from happening too.
TIE it UP
If your hair is long enough to fit in a bun and aren’t a fan of hats, you can tie it up. This not only protects your scalp from the sun but also keeps your hair away from chlorinated pool or sea water – unless you go for a dive of course.
Have the right products
Using a moisturising shampoo and conditioner is a must. The latter should be used whenever you leave the water or your hair was exposed to a lot of sun.
Opting for a more intense shampoo and conditioner over your regular products may also help in caring for your hair better whilst being on holiday. All that sun, chlorine and salt can really pull out your hairs moisture so it’s crucial to replenish it. Sun screen specifically developed for hair should also be a must have.
REMEMBER THE SUNCREAM
Don’t forget to apply sun cream around your hairline, behind your airs and your parting. This will will ensure you don’t get a flaky and burning scalp once you get back home.
